I’m not a regular California wedding photographer… I’m a California wedding photographer who loves all things styling, aesthetics, and design. So if you’re looking for decor ideas for your Joshua Tree wedding, I’ve got you!! I’m a firm believer that your wedding decor should be inspired by you, and if you’re a couple who’s easygoing, free-spirited, and effortlessly cool… A boho wedding in Joshua Tree State Park is right up your alley. Keep reading to see all my best tips for styling a day like this!!

Boho wedding color palettes are so fun, because the natural scenery and desert light creates its own palette for you. The best idea is always to just follow that! Terracotta, sage, neutrals, and rich earth tones look so good in a place like this every single time, trust me.
I always tell my Joshua Tree couples to avoid pastels, like light blues, pinks, and yellows. The scenery is so soft-toned here that it ends up washing your wedding out or making it blend into the desert, and this is supposed to be your moment to SHINE, queen!

Okay, Joshua Tree weddings? They need texture. Something about textured tugs, blankets, linens, and florals elevates your day here so much, and I’m obsessed every time!!
I’m also always a huge fan of low, picnic-style tables. The cushions on the ground and the easy-going reception feel are incredibly chic. And decorating your tables with that boho-goodness color palette plus things like lanterns, crystals, and even cow skulls is SUCH a vibe.
This wedding day used wooden tables, linen napkins and table runners, terracotta vases, and woven placemats for texture, with the neutral + terracotta color palette of my dreams, and it was so amazing. Stunningly simple and cool AF without even trying!!

For boho weddings, you typically see dried florals and pampas grass, but to protect the desert, these aren’t allowed at Joshua Tree State Park. No worries though, because fresh flowers here are just as gorg!! Just be sure to pick flowers that hold up against wind and in dry heat, like marigolds, zinnias, and begonias. They’re gorgeous, environmentally safe, and fit the color palette!!

The question of the century… Should your Joshua Tree wedding have an arch that’s minimal or one that makes a statement? Honestly, whichever fits your vibe best is the way to go. Something simple here looks just as gorgeous as something architectural; it’s just about whether you want the scenery or the design to stand out more! And if you really want the desert to stand out, go without an arch and let nature serve as your backdrop. LOVE that for you!!
A pro tip, though? Take the wind into consideration. Make sure to have a heavier arch or hold it down with weights so that it doesn’t blow away. Wooden arches always work great with this, and the unique shape of the one from this wedding day was SO beautiful.

I love boho wedding gowns because they give you the opportunity to be super comfortable and really infuse your personality into your wedding day style. They’re always unique and different, which is seriously perfect for your main character moment!!
For boho or Joshua Tree weddings, I always recommend a light, airy fabric (because that flow in the wind?? dreamy) with some boho detailing on it. Here are a few dresses that I’m so obsessed with!:
You can never go wrong with accessorizing your boho wedding dress with a pair of boots (like these Brayden Boots from Free People) or a hat! And to pair with it, I always love a terracotta or olive green suit… Literally SO good.

No wedding is complete without a flatlay. Detail shots are important to capturing the full vibe of your day, and when it’s a boho-themed wedding, here’s what I recommend you bring:

What’s important at the end of the day is that your wedding feels like you. And if that means boho meets funky disco, I’m here for it! If that looks like no design elements and just the natural scenery, I love it!
Your wedding should tell a story about the two of you through every single intentional detail, from your color palette to your dress to your flatlays! I would love to help you create a day that feels full of meaning and capture it in a way that brings you that nostalgia for years to come.
