NorCal basically looks like a film still all on its own. So if you’re looking for wedding venues with a cinematic vibe… Northern California’s got you. See my fave Northern California wedding locations for that energy (plus everything you need to know about them) as a NorCal wedding photographer who has captured days allll over!!

Okay, if you’re a local, you know how stunning it is here. And if you’re considering traveling in for a destination wedding, this is your sign to DO IT!!
Northern California honestly feels like its own little world that’s filled with pretty beaches, dreamy lighting, and hella good wedding venues. So weddings here?? They always hit different. They feel elevated even if you don’t do anything fancy, and trust me, the views are going to be unforgettable.
So if you’re dreaming of a wedding day (probably outdoors, probably in the summer) that feels a little luxe and a little unique without going overboard, NorCal is SO for you.

Every season in NorCal brings something different for weddings, and I honestly love them all. My personal favorite time of year for NorCal weddings will always be summer, but you truly cannot go wrong!!
Spring weddings bring lush gardens and soft light, perfect for estate venues in Sacramento. Summer weddings are ideal for coastal weddings and Wine Country weddings. Fall weddings are one of the most popular choices in Northern California because vineyards change color and the weather is incredibly comfortable. And winter weddings? They’re quieter, cozier, and more intimate.

Whether you’re on the coast in San Fran, in the heart of wine country, or in the woods in Yosemite, it’s gonna feel like a scene right out of a movie. Northern California is just SO beautiful, no matter what area you’re in!!
Since there are so many spots that are incredibly gorgeous, I know that it can make it really hard to choose where to get married. Lucky for you, I’ve seen the ins and outs of each one, so I’m here to help you choose which one actually fits you the best.
Dreaming of an outdoor dinner party where you’re clinking wine with your people under sparkling string lights all night long?? Yeah, that’s Napa Valley!!
Wine Country is always at the top of my list, because that effortless European-esque energy is TOO good. It’s perfect for couples who want their weddings to feel a little elevated but still lived-in and experienced. If you’re getting married in Napa Valley, you probably want a modern color palette (burgundy and chartreuse?? Yes, please!!) and a sleek, simple dress like Addilyn by Jenny Yoo.
If that sounds like your Pinterest board, here are a few Napa Valley wedding venues that I’m literally obsessed with!!
See a few more of my faves on my Napa Valley wedding guide!!

Big Sur weddings always have me UNWELLLL. The mountains + ocean views are incredible together, and when you add a luxe wedding here… It’s truly insane.
If you can picture a wedding that’s vibrant and fun but easy and peaceful all at the same time, that’s Big Sur!! Ceremonies feel intimate (somehow even if you’re hosting a large wedding), and receptions feel full of life. It has that vibe where you’re crying one second, then screaming to Beyoncé on the dance floor the next, and as a NorCal wedding photographer, that’s SO my vibe. If it’s yours, too, we’re definitely gonna be besties.
Big Sur wedding venues are something really special, and even though it’s honestly hard to choose, here are a few of my favorites:
If you’d rather spend your day hiking than on the beach, Yosemite is your place. If you’re pausing on this one, you’re probably trying to decide between a traditional wedding and an elopement, and if I’m honest… Go for the elopement.
Yosemite genuinely feels like a dream. I mean, the mountain views alone are insane, but then the fact that you have the moody forests and the open fields along with it?? Yeah, obsessed!! If you want cinematic, that’s cinematic.
Plus, it’s one of the Northern California wedding locations where it just makes sense for it to be only the two of you. So if a private, intimate, moody forest elopement is your vibe… Grab your Selkie wedding dress and meet me there!!
I know that eloping, especially in a National Park, is probably making you say, “Ummm… But how do we do that??” Don’t worry; I’ve gotchu!! Here’s my full Yosemite elopement guide with literally everything you need to know to plan your wedding here.

Because Golden Gate views are iconic.
You can choose to elope in the park or hold a wedding at the Headlands Center for the Arts if you want coastal mountain views and vibrant AF, film-inspired couples portraits!! This area has the PERFECT energy for cinematic weddings with a slight breeze, light that hits you like it was made for you (as it should), and views that feel like decor all on their own.
Elopements here fit so well, and I’m always picturing a dress like Frida by Jenny Yoo paired with a super colorful bouquet for them. Something simple, but still so beautiful!!
Sacramento is EVERYTHINGGG. This Northern California wedding location honestly holds so many different styles SO well, so you really can’t go wrong here.
One thing that I love about weddings in Sacramento, though, is that there are several estate venues. And an estate wedding venue?? Yeah, that elevates your day all on its own, and it automatically makes it super easy to stay present and in the moment. It’s just like a classy wedding from a movie, so if that’s the vibe, check out these venues:

Bodega Bay gives you Hawaii energy without having to deal with airport security lines, so yeah, it’s basically a dream come true.
As a NorCal wedding photographer, I LOVE a coastal feel for weddings. I mean, intimate dinner party receptions with an ocean breeze?? It could bring a tear to my eye!! That’s why Bodega Bay is one of my favorite Northern California wedding venues, full stop. Not to mention that the views look straight out of a travel magazine, so trust me when I say that it brings the cinematic look.
This area works SO well for smaller weddings. Like, Alexa and Robert’s wedding here lives rent-free in my brain. An outdoor ceremony, sunset portraits, and good music underneath string lights is kinda the perfect formula for Bodega Bay weddings!!
If you want a larger and more traditional wedding, though, the venues here are gorg!! I love The Bodega Bay Secret Gardens and The Lodge at Bodega Bay.

If you’re struggling to choose a location, I get it. Because every single one on this list is seriously incredible!!
As a NorCal wedding photographer, one of the biggest things I tell couples is to pay attention to how a venue feels throughout the day, not just how it looks online. Here are a few things I always tell my couples to look for:
When couples choose a venue that flows well, the entire wedding day feels more relaxed. And that leads to more natural photos and a better overall experience!!

If you’re looking for a cinematic wedding location, you probably want cinematic wedding photos, too, and that’s where I come in!! If you’re planning a wedding in any of these Northern California wedding locations, I’d love to be there to capture your day in a way that’s nostalgic, a little editorial, and completely true to you.
