Joshua Tree is one I’ll be obsessed with for literally forever. There’s something about the dreamy lighting, the gorgeous natural scenery, and the calming neutral color palette that’s just too good. As a California engagement photographer, I’ve photographed couples all over the state, and Joshua Tree consistently creates some of the most natural, connected photos. So, if you’re thinking about choosing a Joshua Tree photoshoot for your engagement, I’m so here for the vibes!!

If you’re wondering if a Joshua Tree photoshoot is right for your engagement photos… The answer is probably yes. Seriously, though, if the two of you love nature, literally breathtaking scenery, and you’re maybe a little boho and a little whimsical, it’s a match. Oh, and not to mention that golden hour here?? Absolutely insane.

As a California engagement photographer, I always say that your engagement session should feel easy and more like a date than a production, and Joshua Tree makes that happen. The wide-open spaces allow for SO much movement, which is always key for a shoot like that. The space to run, the soft breeze in the air, and the naturally calming colors of the desert?? They let you be fully yourself, and as your California engagement photographer… I love it.
If we go in the morning, the park is fairly empty, so it feels like we have it all to ourselves. Time moves slowly and the vibes are always calm. You two bring the romance, and the landscape (and your photographer, wink wink) does everything else for you. You never, ever have to fake or overproduce anything, and it makes for the most beautiful, authentic photos!
That all goes to say: a Joshua Tree photoshoot feels easy, natural, and never stuffy, which means that we have a hella good time while I’m capturing hella good pictures.

Don’t stress about planning a Joshua Tree photoshoot. I know it might feel overwhelming, but that’s what I’m here for as your California engagement photographer! I’ve got you!! Here’s everything you need to know and expect for your session.

For engagement photoshoots in Joshua Tree, you don’t need a permit, which takes a lot of stress off!! Note that you won’t get exclusive access to any site inside the park, but that’s no problem since I know how to work around a crowd to get the shot.
More good news: you don’t have to pay extra for a Joshua Tree photoshoot, just the entrance fee!! That’s $30, so be sure to bring that with ya.

The park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so realistically… Your opportunities for engagement photos here are endless. But as a California girlie, I know the weather doesn’t always cooperate!! Spring and fall are when you’ll find the mildest temperatures in Southern California, so that’s what I always recommend to my couples. I also like to do a weekday to avoid some of the crowds, and hit the park around sunrise or sunset for the best lighting. Each shoot will be tailored to what you want, though, and I’ll help you plan everything about the timeline of your day!!

The boho feel of the desert means that light, flowy fabrics and neutral, earthy colors look SO good in photos. I love anything that’s sage green, mustard yellow, or terracotta, and anything that flows in the wind. Need recommendations? You know I’ve got you!!

If you’re one of my type A girlies, I get it. I’ve already made the list for YOU of what I suggest you bring with you to your session, so that you don’t have to:

Okay, Marcus and Caroline… They invented romance. I mean, I can’t get over how in love these two are!! We had such a good time running all over Joshua Tree for their photoshoot, and it shows. Every little laugh, every stolen kiss, every soft smile. Ugh, I’m obsessed!!
These photos make the perfect inspo for your Joshua Tree photoshoot, so you should definitely save them! Their outfits looked perfect, the lighting was SO good, and the way they trusted me? I’ll be dreaming about this one forever!!

No matter your style (Joshua Tree engagement photos or City Hall engagement photos), I’d LOVE to be there to capture part of your love story. I’m a photographer who’s all about getting creative, romantic, and editorial shots in the most fun way, and if that’s your vibe, I’d love to connect!
