Okay, Cavaignac is already one of my absolute favorite wedding venues around (and you can see why right here), but when a NorCal wedding venue doubles as an engagement photo location?? That just brings it up, like, 20 levels in my head. If you’re wondering where to take engagement photos in Northern California, I’ve gotchu covered, because as a NorCal engagement photographer, I know that Cavaignac is on a whole other level!!

Cavaignac, A Country Estate, is one of those wedding venues that you can tell is just different. Any European-inspired venue is always a yes from me, and when you make it feel as good as Cavaignac does… Yeah, it’s an actual dream.
If you’re considering booking Cavaignac as a wedding venue, here’s what you need to know about it:
One thing to know, though, is that you can totally use the space as just an engagement photo location, even if you’re not planning to hold your wedding there. If you want a little bit of that rustic, European vibe but not enough to make it your whole wedding day atmosphere, an engagement photoshoot is a GREAT middle ground. And trust me, engagement photos here? GORG!!!

As a NorCal engagement photographer, I’m a big fan of you choosing to have your engagement photo location and your wedding venue be the same space. It gives cohesion throughout your whole wedding era photo gallery, and it gives you the chance to really explore your venue before your wedding day. You’ll find all the little photo op spots that you definitely won’t want to miss, plus get super comfy with all the locations before you’re there on the actual wedding!!
I can’t lie, one of my favorite parts of being a NorCal photographer is that I love seeing your bridal era outfits, so a huge perk is that you get to wear two or three different outfits in the same spot, so you can go for a few totally different vibes. A romantic, Renaissance-inspired outfit like this Selkie dress for engagement photos, and then a super sleek, super classy wedding dress like Josie by Evie Young for your wedding day?? We love a versatile queen!!
Plus, when you use your Cavaignac engagement photos for your Cavaignac wedding… It can look like this:

If you already have your dream venue booked, but you want some of the beauty that Cavaignac brings to your engagement gallery, you can definitely just use Cavaignac as an engagement photo location!! Let’s get into exactly how to plan your shoot.

Cavagnic is the perfect engagement photo location for couples who want their photos to feel more like a date night and less like a “just stand here and smile” situation. If you’re dreaming of a gallery that feels a little romantic, that’s in nature (without the hiking aspect), that’s giving editorial vibes without feeling too formal… We love this one!!

If you want beachy, windswept, barefoot photos, Cavaignac probably isn’t your girl. But if you want European countryside, romantic gardens, estate architecture, and a little “are we in Northern California or did we just casually teleport to the South of France??” energy, then Cavaignac makes SO much sense.

Okay, this is where we can get really into it, because this as an engagement photo location can hold any type of theme well. Here are some ideas I absolutely LOVE:

As a NorCal engagement photographer who knows Cavaignac really well, I’m always down to help you plan your session here. I’ve shot here many times for weddings, styled shoots, and engagement photoshoots, so I know how to work with the venue to get you a gallery that feels completely like you.
I’ll be your right-hand gal to help you reach out to them, get you scheduled, and then, of course, capture you in a way that makes you look hella good and fully captures your love!!
No matter what we’re using the property for, there are a few spots that I REFUSE to miss for photos, including:
Versatility is what makes an engagement photo location really good, and Cavaignac has it. So whether you want a picnic-themed shoot like Chris and Rose had or a moody estate photoshoot vibe, you’re covered here. You can get movement, candids, portraits, detail shots, and those sweet little in-between moments without needing to drive to multiple locations.

Morning sessions are super dreamy here because the light feels soft and fresh, especially around the gardens and pond!! Golden hour would obviously be so good too, but because it’s a wedding venue, availability may be more limited. Either way, having a photographer who knows the property matters, because we can work with the light instead of fighting it. Very important. Very “please don’t put me in direct noon sun and call it art.”
Since Cavaignac hosts weddings, though, you’ll always have to schedule around their availability. This usually looks like a weekday sometime in the morning, and honestly, it works out great!!

With the estate feel that Cavaignac brings, you could really lean into that OR go completely opposite in a REALLY fun way. I love seeing:
If you know me, you know I’m always down for an outfit change, so something soft and romantic for the gardens then classy AF for the estate?? A dream!!

Before your session, you’ll want to:
Then I’ve got the rest covered, babe!!

If you’re still on the hunt for the best engagement photo locations in Northern California, be sure to check out my blogs on William Land Park and The Golden Gate Bridge, too!! All I want as your NorCal engagement photographer is to help you find the engagement photo location that feels like you, so whether it’s on the beach (like Deema and Bilal) or in the courthouse (like Vanessa and Tony), I’m soooo here for it.
I’m the gal who’s gonna guide you through movement, give prompts, help with hands/angles/outfits, hype you up, and also leave room for natural moments, no matter where your session is. So, inquire about booking me here, and we’ll start planning a session together that’s a TON of fun and hella romantic!!
