Spring engagement photos?? They’re my jam!! I’m seriously obsessed with the vibes of just frolicking around in a field with you two while the sun sparkles on the ocean, seeing you guys kiss and run and dance and snuggle. It’s basically a NorCal engagement photographer’s dream.

Why Spring Engagement Photos in NorCal are the BEST 

I love spring engagement photos for SO many reasons. They’re always full of romance, and the energy is incredible every single time I show up for a spring session!! 

My favorite thing about spring engagement photos is how laid-back they feel. There’s something slow about spring that really makes your connection the main character and makes every single photo feel cinematic. 

As a NorCal engagement photographer, I have to say: Northern California? It basically peaks in the spring. The days start to get warm, the energy starts to pick up, and don’t even get me started on the views!! It’s like everything lights up: flowers start to bloom, the sunlight gets soft… It’s kinda something straight out of Pinterest. 

Who Should Take Spring Engagement Photos

Something that stands out to me about my couples who take spring engagement photos is that their main focus is being relaxed. They don’t want to perform or have me as their NorCal engagement photographer saying, “Okay, now smile. Now kiss. Now fake laugh.” They want true, documentary-style, candid engagement photos of them living in the moment. And if I’m honest… Those are the best kinds. 

So, if you’re a girlie who doesn’t want stiff pictures, but pictures where you’re running, dancing, playful, and genuinely laughing, spring engagement photos are SO your vibe!! 

Where to Take Spring Engagement Photos in Northern California

As I said, Northern California is PERFECT for spring engagement photos. The outdoor locations with pretty views and hella good lighting are basically endless, so you get to choose based on your personality and photoshoot style. 

Need recommendations?? I gotchu!! For outdoor spring engagement pictures, I love: 

• A Malibu Beach overlook – especially for a picnic session like this one!! 
• Cavaignac, A Country Estate – if your photoshoot vibe is classy, estate, old money… This is the one. Here’s an engagement session I captured there for inspo!! 
• Point Reyes – because coast views from a cliff?? Hard to beat. This session lives in my head rent-free. 

If indoor engagement photos are more up your alley (or you want a shoot with some variety, which I’m obsessed with), here are some of my fave places to hit: 

• Your wedding venue – I mean, I already know you have good taste, plus getting a test run of portraits for your wedding day?? A true win-win. 
• Filoli Historic Homes and Gardens – because somewhere with indoor AND outdoor options (that are jaw-dropping BTW) and gardens that are GORG in the spring is on my sign-me-up-immediately list. This session shows exactlyyy why I love it here!! 
• Your fave coffee shop – because drinking a matcha in your engagement session is queen behavior. I love Camellia for this!! 

What to Wear for Spring Engagement Photos

Okay, it’s already obvious that I love spring engagement photos, but another reason that they’re some of my FAVES is the fashion!! 

I love pastels, flowy fabrics, and floral patterns for spring (groundbreaking) because they photograph SO beautifully.

NorCal weather in the spring can be a little unpredictable, but when you’re prepared and working with a photographer who’s prepared (hiiii), it can make for some GORGEOUS shots!!

What’s the best time of day for spring engagement photos? 

Sunrises and sunsets in the spring are PEAK times for good lighting that make you look like the queen you are!! While the best time of day for your shoot totally depends on your location, those are typically the best. As your NorCal engagement photographer, though, I’m always here to help you figure out the best time!! 

What are good pose ideas for spring engagement photos? 

Movement, movement, movement. I’m someone who loves natural laughs, natural movement, and natural prompts wayyy more than stiff posing, and if you’re here… I’d bet you’re the same way!! 

What should I bring to spring engagement photos? 

If you want props (like champagne, blankets, or flowers), DEF bring those, but otherwise, I’m always pro-outfit change! Bringing a change of clothes, or even a change of shoes to walk in, is a good idea, plus things like snacks, water, and a small sweater in case it gets chilly. 

What’s the weather like in the spring in Northern California? 

Spring definitely starts out a little chilly here, but around mid-May, temperatures are SO comfortable and SO perfect for your engagement shoot!! Spring is the most common season for rain here, but again, I always know how to work around it for your photos.
